Proceedings of the Conference

Publication

All accepted papers will be published as ‘Lecture Notes in Mechanical Engineering’ by Springer under the volume titled “Recent Advanced in Machines, Mechanisms and Design” Select Proceedings of iNaCoMM-2023

Disclaimer:
Select papers from the conference will be published by Springer as a proceedings book volume. Springer will conduct quality checks on the accepted papers and only papers that pass these checks will be published.

Springer Nature does not charge any money for publication of Non-Open Access content. Abstracts/extended abstracts and short papers (less than 4 pages) are not considered for publication.

Best Paper Award

Two best papers (one general and one student) will be selected and awarded a prize of Rs 5000/- and a certificate by AMM.

Students Mechanisms Design Contest (SMDC)

Objective:
The objective of the Association for Machines and Mechanisms (AMM) is to inculcate the feeling of innovation in the minds of young students. A mechanism design contest has been made an integral part of the iNaCoMM conference series since 2009. The purpose is to encourage the students to apply their theoretical knowledge in the domain of Machines and Mechanisms to either solve problems relevant to the society.

Award:
The Association of Machines and Mechanisms (AMM) has approved 3 prizes for the Student Mechanism Design Contest. The winning entry will receive Rs. 10,000 while the 2nd and 3rd prizes are respectively of Rs. 6,000 and Rs. 4,000 each.

The Evaluation Committee (in consultation with AMM) reserves the right to restrict the prizes if it feels entries are not upto the mark and do not meet the required quality. That is, it is not mandatory for all prizes to be awarded. The evaluation committee can recommend only the first prize if it deems so.

Who can participate?
Participation is restricted to individuals/groups of students (up to three members). All the participants must be registered as full-time students/research scholars/project staff in recognized institutes.

How to participate?
Participants are invited to submit proposals for design, construction and operation of mechanisms which are innovative and capable of solving a challenging design problem. The design problem may be chosen from a wide range of application domains - from agricultural and rural technology to automobile engineering and biomedical field. Typical, non-exhaustive, examples include:

  1. 1. A tree climbing mechanism
  2. 2. Walking mechanism (with two or more legs)
  3. 3. Mars-rover type small vehicle which can climb over significant obstacles
  4. 4. Staircase climbing mechanism
  5. 5. Foldable mechanisms, which can be deployed as useful structures, e.g., space-efficient beds, tables and other furniture, etc.
  6. 6. A foot-operated substitute of the hand-pump
  7. 7. Patient bed for the hospitals to overcome sore problem
  8. 8. Mechanism to create negative pressure for wound care
  9. 9. Automatic operation of traditional games, such as table tennis return function
  10. 10. Mechanisms to substitute human efforts for peeling/cutting fruits/vegetables, etc.
The above listing is only representative. Participants are free to innovate on their own.

Following additional points may also be noted:

  1. 1. The mechanism could be manually powered or operated by a small motor or engine.
  2. 2. Operational safety of the mechanism/machine and the power source is of utmost importance. Unsafe machines will not be allowed for demonstration.
  3. 3. It is suggested that the mechanism be light and compact, and easy to transport, assemble and operate at the venue. Significant modifications/repairs cannot be done at the venue.
  4. 4. Machines using significant artificial intelligence (robots) are not allowed. However, some sort of remote control from an operator is allowed.
  5. 5. The prototype machine must be operated satisfactorily in front of the judges, and each machine will be given at most three chances, to demonstrate its performance.

Procedure and deadlines:

  1. 1. The final selection will be based on the three-stage evaluation
    1. a. At the first stage, proposals about the problem formulation and novelty will be judged. The participants will have to initially submit a 2-page proposal containing the problem formulation and expected objectives by May 15, 2023 June 15, 2023June 30, 2023. Submissions should be done through email with the subject line “Students' Mechanism Design Contest”,to any of the following Ids:inacomm2023@nitrr.ac.in

    2. b. Decisionswill be sent out to the participants by May 31, 2023 June 25, 2023July 10, 2023, and the selected proposals would be requested to proceed towards the development of mechanism.

    3. c. In the second stage, the selected teams need to send the details of their working mechanism by July 31, 2023. Also, a detailed report on the progress on the design of the mechanism has to be submittedvia email (inacomm2023@nitrr.ac.in). Along with the report, the photographs and videos of the progress of the developed mechanism may be sent for review. Review reports of the second stage of design will be sent out by August 15, 2023 September 10, 2023, and selected designs will enter the prototype presentation stage. The final detailed report along with the photographs and videos of the developed mechanism may be submitted thru email (inacomm2023@nitrr.ac.in) before October 31, 2023.successful participants will be requested to participate in the final round, to demonstrate their working prototypes during iNaCoMM 2023 at NIT Raipur. Those invited for final presentation will be provided TA/DA.

    4. d. In the final stage, the team has to be present their design and produce the working prototype of the mechanism during iNaCoMM-2023 conference.
  2. 2. Winners will be adjudicated based on the extent of innovation, difficulty of the design challenge, effectiveness of the proposed solution towards solving the actual problem, etc.
  3. 3. In any matter related to the contest, decision of the judges and/or the organisers would be final and binding.

Important Dates:

  1. 1. Submission of initial proposal (Problem formulation and Objectives): May 15, 2023 June 15, 2023 June 30, 2023
  2. 2. Decision on initial proposal: May 31, 2023 June 25, 2023 July 10, 2023
